Thesiger's Silence The Endurance Issue
An 160-page monster of a publication celebrating all things endurance. From explaining why Alaskan huskies are probably the world’s best endurance athletes to debating whether persistence hunting was ever a thing, we delve into the world of ultra-distance pursuits.
Printed on high-quality 170gsm uncoated paper wrapped in a 350gms cover, there are no adverts either, just high-quality writing and beautiful photography.
The ENDURANCE Issue is, like all of our ARCHIVE Editions, limited to 1,000 copies and when they’re gone, they’re gone.
More of a book than a magazine, the Archive Editions don’t depend on software updates or a supply of electricity; in a post-apocalyptic world, only two things will survive: cockroaches and our Archive Editions.
Thesiger's Silence Adventure Magazines
Wilfred Thesiger was in the midst of his second crossing of Arabia’s Empty Quarter in 1947 when he stopped in the Jilida area in the south-west corner of the country and wrote: “It was very still with the silence which we have driven from our world.”
Haunted by that line for decades, I think it’s more important than ever to take the time to search for that same silence and while this might seem an impossible task in an era defined by its relentless noise, non-stop news and creeping industrialisation, those places are still there. They just take a bit more finding.
Please join Carlton as he travel to some of the world’s most desolate and inhospitable places on foot and by bicycle, canoe, and four-wheel-drive in search of Thesiger’s spirit for his magazine.
All lovingly documented in print. Just like Wilfred did, half a century ago.
